Heidelberger envisions ‘a la Francis’
My good neighbor, and near constant blogger, Cory Heidelberger of the infamous Madville Times, Lake Herman’s independent media source, has a few bold predictions for 2011.
9. Madison Area Arts Council Paints the Town: Madison residents awakened to a stunning redecoration of their community, with colorful abstract murals literally splashed on public buildings and businesses all along Egan Avenue and Highway 34. “Everyone else has plain old historic murals of cowboys and prairie farms,” said a colorfully spattered MAAC exec Chris Francis. “We wanted Madison to have something Unexpected™.”
I’ll have to work on this one, outdoor banners run about $10 per running ft, with a 4ft spread, so 10 ft x 4ft would only be about $100. Seems more possible than not, almost ‘unexpected’ huh?
Not your usual ‘Dirty Laundry’
Sniff, sniff, smells like whites to me.
I just recently had the opportunity to show in my backyard, at The BrickHouse, for the special one-night show, ‘Dirty Laundry’. Essentially, it was a show about the process of being an artist, the good, the bad, the ugly, and all stages between.
There was a strong mix of work, some narrative, some introspective, some a little more direct, but all fitting the theme of the night.
I was able to fit 6 drawings from ’Dakota Requiem’, which I tend to collectively call ‘Karma Sketches’, on my laundry line.

Next Stop, White Night!
White Night is almost here, it’s only 9 weeks away afterall, so that’s really soon! I’m incredibly excited to be part of this festival, and I’m even beginning to jump out of my borrowed Grant Wood knickers (see twitter)
Our fine council, the Madison Area Arts Council, is proud to be bringing the first-ever White Night festival to the States (that’s 50 of em’) to Madison on July 1st from 5-10pm.
We’ll be making art happen, much like DrawnTown or Third Place Nights, but on an insane level, with community, collaboration, and sheer passion. Everyone is welcome, and anything can happen, perhaps its best to check out this link for more
I’m Heading to 3rd Place Nights…
3rd Place Nights is almost here, this Wednesday, from 7 – 9pm at The BrickHouse, here in Madison. Artists will be making great things happen, together, and all under one roof.
I’ll be bringing my IKC, otherwise known as my ‘Instant Karma Creator’, and a few other goodies, like my ‘Box of Karma’!
Working on ‘The BrickHouse’…
I’ve been busy these last few months working on ‘The BrickHouse Community Arts Center’, our new home for the Arts & Culture here in Madison. As president of the Madison Area Arts Council, one of the leading volunteer-based councils in the state, we’ve been launching all sorts of new, and best of all, free & open programming efforts this past year.
Over the past few weeks we’ve announced ‘Third Place Nights’, which is an open-studio community exchange of arts, culture, and everything else down at ‘The BrickHouse’. We’ve also just announced ‘White Night’, as part of our ongoing Chautauqua Series, which is a free & open festival celebrating the arts, culture, and community this coming July.
Essentially for this past year, I’ve been working and dedicating my energies and efforts to creating and maintaining successful, and always free & open, cultural opportunities for the Madison area. It’s been a rewarding experience, and I continue onward with a few great hands too, working on creating as we call it, a vibrant arts community!
Maybe karma will show its hand yet, we’ll see…
