Now in Luverne…

Wait, Luverne, I had to come back, and this time I’ll stay awhile.

A few selections of my work can now be found at Hallstrom Glass Studios and Gallery (HGS), so swing by and check it out!

Letters of love and other distractions…

Over the weekend I sent over a few pictures and other such thoughts about life, love, and this painting thing to my friends at the Graphic Content, anyhow, this is what has occurred.

Anyhow, I’ll see you all tomorrow evening at Eastbank, from 5:30-7:30pm, and bring lots of stones.

From my first introduction to ‘Art Rocks’ this past weekend in Luverne, which was my first-time showing in Minnesota, so yes, it’s an historic moment.

Choppers and Metal Gods…

A few weeks back I was lucky enough to fall into another great show, Artists Against Hunger, which is running strong into its third year down in Sioux Falls.

It was like a homecoming for me too, as it marked my return to where I first got my start in Sioux Falls a few years back at the Emerging Artists Showcase, both of which were held at 8th & Railroad Center on the famed Eastbank of the Big Sioux.

One of the highlights for me, beyond hanging with a few friends (Asher, Kevin, Lacey, Shannon, John, Greg, Corey, Tim, Alix, Deb, Chad, Zach, and a few more) was the work from Twisted Choppers, South Dakota’s premiere and much-admired custom bike builders. Spend a weekend next to one of their bikes, and you’ll understand why I was grooving on these, stand-out work without a doubt.

As a bunch of misfits and punks, we raised about 3,800 pounds of food for the local food bank in Sioux Falls, not to bad for us.

Now about this buying art thing…

Out on the Dock…

Egan heads to the lake for the Garden & Art Walk co-sponsored by the finest arts council known in Lake County.

Thanks to Brian & Scott Walther for coming along, and for the pics too.

Buy Your Share…

This was a vintage Works Progress Administration (WPA) program poster, advocating supporting local artists, way back in the 30′s. Even in the grips of the depression, our government, and our citizens too, recognized the importance and need to support and sustain the creative class. What a great time for the arts in our history, as a number of public works were created, from Post Office murals to Rushmore itself, we made amazing things representative of our culture and our very aspirations.

Now, well, we gotta do better.

Point the Tail a Great Success..

Looks like we had a great night for The Retreat at Pointer’s Ridge!

Artists Kevin Bierbaum, Asher Srednas, and myself organized a fundraising event and show at the Museum of Visual Materials in Sioux Falls this past week, called Point the Tail. We hosted 25 of the regions best artists for this special one-night only show, and by all measures, it was a great success.

Many thanks go to Jessica Farley of MoVM, Kevin, Asher, Deb Klebanoff of The Retreat, Brady Holm for the event poster, Jay from the Argus, and yes, to all of our featured artists and of course, our supporters. Thank you.

Drawntown Lives Another Day…

I actually made it to Drawntown at Ipso Gallery this past week. That proves there is hope for me. I think.

Point the Tail approaches…

I’m honored to have had the opportunity to work with a few friends (actually over 25 regional artists) to help create a great show and benefit for The Retreat at Pointer’s Ridge, which is being held this Wednesday at the Museum of Visual Materials from 5-9pm.

I’ll see you there, and look for a few fresh things (and artists) too!

Looking for John Green?

Taking applications for aspiring John Green types. Quiet personable qualities a plus. Tolerance for punk abstract painters preferred. Apply today. chris@eastofegan.com

Still Hanging Around…

Seems like I’ve made a second home in Sioux Falls, one with fine wine & gourmet cheese, so things are looking up. If you haven’t had the opportunity to catch a glimpse of my new work from ‘Dakota Requiem’, be sure to make your way to The Market on Phillips in the next few weeks to see for yourself what I can offer for all your abstract landscape needs. (yes, there is an actual need for abstract landscapes, I swear)

Also, be sure to become a fan of the new East of Egan Studio & Gallery Facebook page, which will showcase new works, and many exclusives in the coming weeks ahead.

Held-over at The Market…

If you missed your opportunity on First Friday, then don’t miss the next few weeks, as I’ll be hanging around The Market on Phillips for a little longer. (Translation: Go to the Market on Phillips)

Thanks again to everyone at The Market for a great night, and for a great turnout as well, it sure was fun! (If there was something you liked, let me know, chris@eastofegan.com)

Another day in Graphic Content…

I had a few words about the mystery of composition which I felt necessary to share, and bring light too as well, for I’m merely a mortal, a mortal artist at that.

Check out my favorite blog of all things relevant and important and graphical, and stay connected, as I’ve got an urge to bring a little trouble to Sioux Falls in a few short weeks (and a lot more trouble for Pierre)

Yup, it passes as painting…

Sharing karma is like sharing fresh paintings, good thing I like to share, cause this painting thing is beginning to catch on.

You never know…

Can you spot the karma, from 2007?

As always, things change, but it’s good to see where you’ve been from time to time.

‘Fresh Picks’ from the crates…

Let’s take a peak into a few crates of fresh work, as I ready for Artists of the Plains in the coming weeks…

Now, that’s some Grade A, blue ribbon, farm fresh produce, ready for market, I could go on…but let’s save it until Sioux Falls.

Crack open the crates…

…cause karma is in season.

Eat in moderation. Store as best you can. Share with friends.

Cowboy-Up

‘Save a horse, ride a artist?’

I’ll be headed this February to the 31st Annual Artists of the Plains Art Show & Sale, presented by Augustana College and The Center for Western Studies, in Sioux Falls.

This annual juried and by invitation-only event is a showcase of  the best of ‘Western Art’ and artists, and I was thrilled to receive an invite this year, and just about floored to be selected and represented. I’ll be joining 22 other honored artists, and if last year’s invites are any indicator, it’s a stellar group for sure, and I’m humbled at best.

A reception is scheduled for Friday evening, with several awards, and a weekend filled with educational classes taught by a few of the artists. The show itself is free and open to the public, and be sure to come out for the reception, as I have aspirations to steal the ‘people’s choice’ award. (we can but try)
