Drawntown Lives Another Day…

I actually made it to Drawntown at Ipso Gallery this past week. That proves there is hope for me. I think.

It’s worth to mention…

Alright, I’ve been excited before about mentions, take for instance Graphic Content or the Post, but this makes my day, as I was cited in the Stendhal Syndrome!

‘You’ll see that artists of the Plains don’t have to create work that literally represents the prairie landscape.  While yes, you will see magnificent views of the prairie with the work of artists like Gisele Robinson and emotive wildlife art by the renowned artist Josh Spiess, you will also see the energetic abstract painting of Chris Francis, the brightly-hued abstract floral works of mixed media artist Jennifer Stone and the contemplative and moving work of printmaker Chad Nelson—all three who are making their debut at the annual event’ – Kara Dirkson, Stendhal Syndrome.
11 words. I’ll take it.

If it’s in the paper…

I was caught, along with Kiel, by the quick lens of the Sioux Falls Argus Leader last Friday at DrawnTown. This feature ran on Saturday’s edition, pg 2 for all you gawkers.

Look, all hands, no brush…

I’m back from DrTSF, which was just this last friday in Sioux Falls, with 2 fresh works of karma for all of you to enjoy. These are from my new body of work, ‘Dakota Requiem’, and are indeed a small part of the developing Series One. (Series Two is coming, give me a few weeks to work it out)

As so far as medium, I continue to work with oil-sticks (essentially wax and oil) and they were completed on a stretched canvas, which measures 16×20, with an extra deep profile too. Check out that heavy paintwork, it’s getting thick around here, and a little bright too.

If you’re ever interested in any of these works for your own collections, it’s great to have an original after all, feel free to email chris@eastofegan.com, and we’ll figure those details out.

Also, be sure to catch me in DeSmet this Saturday at The Harvey Dunn Plein Air event, more on that later this week.

DrawnTown huh, what’s up with that?

Yes, I’ll be headed towards DrawnTown this Friday in Sioux Falls, which a part of the Eastbank Block Party this time around, hence ‘Mash-Up’. (I’m excited about the official buttons)

For those of you who haven’t heard, Drawn Town is the absolute best artist-centered opportunity to work, connect, and just enjoy being a creative-being, it just works. Simply bring a few supplies, like a sketchbook, that’s always popular it seems, then draw, converse, and wait for it, a life-changing moment may just come and surprise you!

If anyone from the 57042 area wants to join along for a free-ride, let me know, I’ve always got room for a friend. (Feel free to comment below)

Back from DrTSF 13 with a few sketches in the bag

Well, I’m back from last night’s DrawnTown 13 in Sioux Falls, which is a great gathering of creative-types and free-spirits, it’s quite cool to be part of. Anyhow, here’s a few new takes, rather rough sketches, on this forthcoming new body of work I’ve developed over this past year. Enjoy!

Check out the Graphic Content blog for even more, and catch me working too!

I’ll be headed towards DrawnTown 13

I like to get out, especially to DrawnTown, which is scheduled for Tuesday in Sioux Falls. (Interesting known fact, ‘London is the Sioux Falls of Europe’, or so I read on a t-shirt)

Here’s the company line via the folks from Graphic Content:

In the past year DrTSF has grown so much, we begin our second year with high hopes of wild success. DrawnTown San Francisco? DrawnTown Santa Fe? Southern France? At any rate, we will start with the new SF Sculpture walk. We will meet at the fountain by the Phillips Ave Diner and go forth to be artists. Tuesday July 13th, 2010 6:30 P.M. ’til the cows come home. Bring your medium of choice.

Sounds good to me, I’ll bring my new art bag, filled with karma and goodies too! (If anyone wants to ride along, feel free to comment below, I always enjoy like-minded company)

K-T, looking for a way out…

Here’s a few fresh sketches from last night’s DrawnTown 12, as I continue to experiment with this new forthcoming body of work, the still untitled ‘Work from the Extinction Layer’.

I’ll be headed west towards the Badlands later this summer, as I’ve recently received a South Dakota Arts Council Artist Project Grant, to create a  new body of work centered around my explorations of the K-T Boundary.

From the shade of David…

I just returned from the shade of a bronzed David, as DrawnTown 12 took to Fawick Park on the banks of the Sioux River, in downtown Sioux Falls. Celebrating its first year, DrawnTown is a great collaborative evening, as artists, talkers, and yes, even troublemakers, converge to make something special happen.

DrawnTown is a great way to connect, beyond a worthwhile investment in creating a few fresh pieces of Karma, check back later for a few of those.

A big thanks to the Graphic Content folks, Andrew and Kiel for sure, I’ll look forward to seeing you at White Night this July!

East of Egan Seen Working…

I’ve been caught, busted in action at DrawnTown 10, if these pics find the mainstream, nothing but more karma for sure. Stage center, grey shirt, box of karma, that’s me, caught…working!

Karma ‘Answers to No Man’…

Here’s a few sketches from last night’s DrawnTown 10, via the use of the IKC, otherwise known as the ‘Instant Karma Creator’. I realize they’re not what one would expect from an old theatre, but I’ve been working on developing a few new ideas or rather explorations into some landscape forms. Anyhow, I used crayon, I prefer crayola, it seems more professional in nature, to create these quick pieces of karma.

Also, I tend to give these little karma gems away, quite freely, so next time I’m around with karma, just ask! I know of at least one that left last night, so if you process some karma, feel free share with us a pic of your karma in action, or at least on the fridge, send it to chris@eastofegan.com

Enjoy! Share! It’s free afterall!

IKC seen at DrawnTown 10…

Well, a big thanks to Kiel, Andrew, and all those who made DrawnTown 10 happen once again, this was my first, and I’ll plan on making a return in the near future.

Anyhow, the IKC, or ‘Instant Karma Creator’ made its debut last night, we’ll call it a silent opening, shh, we don’t want this to get out to quick. Essentially, from what we know from these recently unclassified pics, is that the IKC has the capabilities of creating vast quantities of karma, quickly and with little regard to bystanders.  Really, it’s a dangerous tool, whose sole purpose is the mass-production of quick sketches, that have been referred to as some as ‘real art’.

Perhaps it’s best to keep the IKC in hiding, at least until the next event, something like this could prove itself to be, well, dangerous in the wrong hands. Check back later for some fresh karma pics, from last night at DrawnTown!

Teasing with GC…

Looks like the folks at Graphic Content are at it again, focusing this time on my efforts with ‘Work from the Caldera’. Yes, this body of work does indeed directly lead into ‘Remants & Remains’, take notice how these forms grew and developed over the series.

I’m looking forward as well to the next DrawnTown in Sioux Falls, as the ‘IKC’ otherwise known as the Instant Karma Creator, is ready for launch, so expect vast quantities of karma to be cranked out this coming Tuesday.

As Seen on GC…

Fresh from Graphic Content, a little love, and a little karma in the works…

I’m looking forward to the next DrawnTown in Sioux Falls, the secret and still classified ‘IKC’, or Instant Karma Creator is ready for launch, or should I say, ready for press? Confused? Intrigued? Well, I’ll see you there!

Don’t Mess with Karma…

The Karma Police are out in force, and are looking for your karma, so don’t be caught without your karma!

No Karma? Well it may be best just to link, subscribe, or to otherwise follow www.eastofegan.com, for the time being, and we’ll forget about all of this. Ok? Next time I see you without karma, well, let’s just hope you take my direction here, and follow along…
