‘Bluestem’ makes a debut…
I’ve been working in watercolor and pencil as of late, essentially looking to create something that dries in minutes, as opposed to months. Anyhow, these have developed over the past month, called ‘Bluestem’ and I’m pleased with the results so far.

These 8×10′s come artist framed and matted, and are available for a modest $65, with a smaller 5×7 size (not pictured) for $45. For more information, email chris@eastofegan.com, or look for these at the South Dakota Art Museum Store in Brookings or HGS Gallery in Luverne, as available.
Quick review of things gone…
I just came back from Brookings last night from yet another reception, anyhow, if you missed out, this showing of ‘Dakota Requiem’ will run through next Friday at the Brookings Arts Council.

Press Release from the Brookings Arts Council
BAC Announces Winners of the 35th Annual Fine Arts Exhibit
Geneva Costa of Sioux Falls has taken first place in the Brookings Arts Council’s Annual Juried Fine Arts Exhibit with her painting “An Examination of Movement in Space.”
Brookings artist John Rychtarik won second with “Land Escape,” while Chris Francis of Madison garnered third place with his painting, “Dakota Requiem No. 2.”
Honorable Mentions went to Sandy Ellyson, Watertown; Cyndi Strande, Lake Preston; Ladan Bahmani, Brookings; and Chad Nelson, Sioux Falls. Thirty-eight pieces vied for top honors. “We’re seeing more pieces each year, while at the same time the quality improves,” Executive Director Susan Brugger commented.
Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third prize at the closing reception to be held, Friday, August 26 from 5:30 to 7:00 at the BAC, 524 4th Street in Brookings. Refreshments will be served and the winning artists will give a brief talk on their winning piece.
The exhibit is open to the public through Friday, August 26. There is no admission charge. The Brookings Arts Council is open Tuesdays through Saturdays, Noon to 5. For more information, contact 605-692-4177 or email at artscouncil@brookings.net.
Looking for Egan in all the wrong places…
I’ve been places before, and often uninvited, but for a change of pace, I may actually have been welcomed this time, I think anyway…

For all of your must have ‘Egan’ needs, and who doesn’t have those, you can find a nice selection of my work at the acclaimed (and much respected) South Dakota Art Museum in the far away Brookings.
I actually quite honored and really excited about hanging on the walls that Dunn built, and if you look around the corner from Harvey, you’ll find an incredible museum store (with eager and helpful staff) to assist. I’ve already added a few original things myself from the store, but more on that later.
Fresh work going on the road!
On the road again with East of Egan, more so, on the I-29 corridor.
Looks like a few fresh sketches from ‘Dakota Requiem’ (that’s the first mention of the title) are coming to Brookings tomorrow, for the 34th Annual Fine Arts Exhibition, sponsored by the Brookings Arts Council. I’ll be headed up to Brookings late next year for a joint exhibition, so these are meant to be a few teasers for the so-called ‘big show’.
Anyhow, this exhibition runs from August 3rd – 27th at The Community Arts Center, so feel free to check them out! There is also a closing reception on August 27th from 5:30-7:30, how about them apples?
Now for more work:
