Originally from Eastern Iowa, Francis has exhibited his work throughout a four-state region, including ten significant solo exhibitions, three 2-person exhibitions, and numerous juried and group showings.
Recent awards and honors earned by Francis include a 2011 South Dakota Arts Council Artist Project Grant for pursuit of his body of work Dakota Requiem, third place in the Brookings Arts Council’s 35th Annual Juried Fine Arts Exhibition, and inclusion in Kaleidoscope, a special showing of artists under 40 at the 2011 South Dakota Governor’s Awards in the Arts.
His work has been exhibited at the Figge Art Museum, Davenport, IA; The Center for Western Studies’ 31st and 32nd Artists of the Plains Shows & Sales, Sioux Falls; Presentation College, Aberdeen; Eastbank Art Gallery, Sioux Falls; Brookings Community Cultural Center, Brookings; The Market on Phillips, Sioux Falls; First Congregational Church, Sioux Falls; The BrickHouse Community Arts Center, Madison; Dakota State University, Madison; Quad City Arts Gallery, Rock Island, IL; Clarke University, Dubuque, IA; Upper Iowa University, Fayette, IA; River Arts Center, Clinton, IA; and The Franciscan University, Clinton, IA.
Francis has also taken part locally in the Postcard Salon, Paint the Night Pink, Artists Against Hunger, BankHeist, Point the Tail, Art Collective, and Rug & Relic's Emerging Artists Showcase.
Upcoming exhibitions include The Center for Western Studies‘ Interpretations of Wounded Knee 1973 and 1890 and this summer at the Museum of Visual Materials, both in Sioux Falls.
